Announcement from BAPO Executive Committee
Date: Monday 4th April 2022
Ref: Annual Conference, 29 – 30 April 2022
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the BAPO Executive Committee, we would like to formally announce the cancellation of this year’s planned conference in Coventry at the end of April.
There are many external factors that have influenced our decision and we have put the welfare of all our stakeholders, be that trade partners, speakers, delegates and colleagues at the heart of our decision making.
Following the launch of the clinical timetable and registration, our delegate numbers have risen slowly and remain considerably down on previous years. Despite continuous marketing efforts within the P&O community, there has been no significant uptake in bookings, not to mention enquiries around attendance.
Therefore, we feel it our responsibility to cancel the conference as we are unable to guarantee a level of attendance that would be acceptable to any of our supporters and after an absence of in-person meetings, there are very high expectations for a well-attended meeting this year.
The BAPO Executive Committee had taken everything into consideration when it concluded not to run the conference, including the experiential and reputational aspects, as well as the fact that the return on investment for everyone, would have been limited. At a time when the community are faced with increased workloads, staff sickness and restricted study-leave, we felt we had to act responsibly.
We appreciate that this is disappointing news but trust that you understand our position to not run a poorly attended conference at the end of April. As part of our commitment to members’ education we will be entering a period of consultation, alongside our stakeholders to ensure we understand everyone’s appetite for conferences and other educational activities going forward.
Sincerely
BAPO Exec
