The BAPO Career Development Framework is essential reading alongside the HCPC Standards. Your professional development continues long after you finish your initial studies. The Framework outlines how your knowledge, skills and capabilities can be developed across.
This one-pager sets out BAPO’s expectations of new graduates engaging with preceptorship programmes as part of their first registrant role. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by taking on the excellent advice it offers.
The focus of preceptorship is building your confidence as you navigate the transition from pre-registration learner to being employed in your first role as an HCPC registrant. Your educational programme will have ensured that, at the point you enter the register, you meet the HCPC Standards of Proficiency for Prosthetists / Orthotists. However, it’s fair to say that your confidence in each of these areas might be a different matter. Download this Learning Needs Analysis Tool and gradually work through it with your preceptor over the course of your preceptorship. It will help to identify the areas that need some attention and support. Fear not! You don’t have to do everything all at once!
