A short presentation covering North Sea Plastics range of specialised rigid and flexible thermoplastics used in the fabrication of Prosthetic and Orthotic devices. Material properties, heating guidelines and moulding procedures will be discussed.
Footwear has often been used as a clinical intervention for children living with a mobility impairment. However, there is no apparent common understanding of how to define these footwear interventions or clear criteria for their use. This combined body of work aimed to achieve an expert consensus on how to define and group footwear as an assistive aid for children, with a further focus on the design characteristics and clinical prescription of off-the-shelf stability footwear for children with a mobility impairment.
A strong clinical philosophy is directly reflected in the devices that are ultimately created at any Prosthetic and Orthotic facility. We will discuss the components of the clinical philosophies underlying the care provided at the Indiana Institute for Prosthetics (Whitestown, IN) and how they influence the final products created through the clinic. From shape capture to rectification and design to manufacturing the final 3D printed device. During the course participants will learn about all 3D Printing technologies, our research and development projects and the benefits of 3D
printing. take part in practical sessions on scanning with both iPads and iPhones and casting techniques with E-Cast and C-Form tube. Following this there will be demonstrations about digital rectification and design.

Course Description:
BAPO are proud to present the upcoming Spine and Lower Limb Anatomy course to be held on
Friday 7th March in the Human Anatomy Resource Centre, University of Liverpool. The course
represents an exciting opportunity for Orthotists and Prosthetists to gain a unique insight into the
human body using cadaveric material and the latest in digital technology. The morning session
will focus on the spine, hip and thigh and the afternoon session will examine the knee, lower leg
and foot. You will be able to refresh your anatomical knowledge by attending a lecture by a
resident academic before visiting the laboratories, where anatomy demonstratorswill be on hand
to assist you in examining the cadavers. Here, you will be able to gain a thorough understanding
of the complete anatomy and apply it to every day clinical practice.
Learning Objectives:
This event aims to equip clinicians with the knowledge of the spine and lower limb anatomy
required to effectively treat various pathologies in clinical practice. The course content will
concentrate on joints, muscle attachments, nerves, and the circulatory system and will be

Course description:
This 2 day face-to-face short course offers participants an opportunity to learn about the orthotic management of musculoskeletal (MSK) disorders of the foot and ankle in a group setting (maximum 20 participants). The experienced faculty of Orthotists will share their knowledge and skills in both theory and practical sessions.
Prior to the commencement of the course, registrants will be asked to read four designated full text journal articles.
During the course, participants will attend taught theoretical sessions mixed with active learning which will involve dividing into smaller groups to interpret x-rays and assess each other’s feet and ankles with feedback and guidance from the faculty team.
The course offers participants an intimate, focused, and friendly learning environment away from the bustle of everyday clinical work to refresh their knowledge with best available evidence and equip them with the skills to enable them to build their confidence and MSK practice.

The course aims to improve the skills of the Orthotist when providing
therapeutic footwear to their patients.
Day 1 is presented virtually and covers footwear assessment procedures, what to consider, analysis of the situation and how to use this information to choose the most appropriate type of footwear. The different types of footwear will be discussed, stock, modular, and bespoke footwear (its uses, allowances, benefits and limitations). The mechanics of feet and how they affect footwear and how footwear affects feet is included, with lots of detail about designing bespoke footwear and how each part of it should be specified and designed by the orthotist to achieve the best outcome for the patient.
Day 2 and 3 are face to face and includes practical sessions aiming to improve assessment, measuring skills, casting, fitting, supplying and reviewing skills.
Potential problems at fitting and review and how to resolve them will be discussed and suggestions on how to improve practice will be suggested.
Attendees should be prepared to share a short case study on day 1. This can be either a success or a problem that they experience in their footwear provision. A brief description is all that is needed but photos would help.
Attendees should bring an example of a footwear draft to day 2.
