CAHPR Research Practitioner Framework
CAHPR has recently published a framework of research practitioner competencies to support practitioners, managers, educators and leaders to review and plan practitioner roles, activity and support systems within a range of practice settings.
The framework describes the knowledge and skills required of allied health professionals (AHPs) working in research from basic competency to advanced and research leadership levels.
The generation and application of research should be embedded in health and social care practice in order to improve services, promote health, wellbeing and safety of service users, and to optimise the effective use of resources. This new resource offers a practical framework to support making research ‘core business’ to practice whilst also forging pathways and career progression for AHPs to become leaders in the field of applied health research.

Proffesionals for MND
Professionals with an interest in MND are wanted for a study to help develop guidelines on best deliverance of an MDT.

Dear Colleague,
We are approaching you to seek your support in identifying experts with an interest in Motor Neurone Disease (MND) who may be interested in developing guidelines on how best to deliver multidisciplinary team (MDT) care in the UK to people with MND. The NICE Guidelines (2016) stated that care for people with MND should be delivered by an MDT with clinic based co-ordinated care. They also indicated that the MDT should include health and social care professionals with expertise in MND. However these guidelines do not outline the optimal structure and delivery of these MDT clinics. A recently completed literature review has brought together the existing evidence to inform the context and format of these clinics. The findings from this literature review along with this current study aims to develop consensus on best clinical practice in the delivery of MDT care for people with MND in the UK.
This research study is being funded through the Gordon Aickman Fellowship Scheme. Ethical approval has been obtained by the University of Stirling General University Ethics Panel. The research team are Dr Jenny Preston MBE (Consultant Occupational Therapist, NHS Ayrshire and Arran), Dr Edward Duncan, Associate Professor of Applied Health Research (Nursing Midwifery and Allied Health Professions Research Unit, University of Stirling) and Dr Karen Berry (Lecturer, Faculty of Health Sciences and Sport, University of Stirling).
We are seeking to identify professionals with expertise in working in MDT for people with MND, people with MND and their family and carers who would be willing to participate in an online eDelphi study. The study will consist of three online questionnaires delivered over a period of six weeks. We aim to commence the study on the 17th February 2020. The eDelphi study will be followed up with a face to face consensus meeting (participation is not mandatory) where we will discuss the eDelphi findings and further develop guideline content. The Starworks Network is seeking Expert Advisers from the Prosthetic world
What is Starworks?
We are a young people’s prosthetics research collaboration who bring children and their families together with key opinion leaders from the NHS, Industry, Clinical Academia and leading National Research Centres with capabilities in child prosthetics.
We are a collaboration which aims to increase research across the system in order to accelerate the translation of new inventions and developments in child prosthetics into everyday use. This initiative is centred on the needs of children and their families as well as the NHS and will ensure there is the ideal balance of ‘clinical pull’ and ‘technical push’ to create an energetic environment in which to innovate and to partner with industry.
What will the network do?
Our network approach will ensure that we have the correct balance of expertise dedicated to supporting innovation in the field of prosthetics for children. Our objectives are:
- To identify and validate unmet needs for children with limb loss from all stakeholders
- To share ideas or requests for collaboration from across the network
- To establish collaborations and facilitate new projects
- To work across all stakeholders, industry, the NIHR and NHS infrastructure to develop and evaluate new technology in this field
- To help shape the national agenda on the importance of new innovation in this field by influencing future funding calls and direction
Does this network include children and young people?
Yes, elevating the voice of children and young people is core to our values and central to our future direction. We have created the Starworks Ambassador Scheme to reward and incentivise the participation of children who use prosthetics, and their siblings, in research activities. Each activity, such as completing surveys, attending workshops, taking part in competitions, reviewing new innovations, and so on, can all earn the children stickers, which add up over time to earn them certificates and vouchers. This will allow us to work with children and young people to share ideas, ask for opinions and co-produce new innovation and developments with them.

What is the commitment?
There is no commitment unless you want to be involved. All that will happen is we will contact you when the network is approached for your opinion, also, if you have something to share from your area of expertise, we would be happy to support this for you.

NETS England AHP Survey
Every year thousands of multi-professional learners undertake clinical placements. For Health Education England, the quality of teaching, learning and assessments in work-based placements lies at the heart of its responsibility in the NHS.
The National Education and Training Survey is now live, HEE are surveying all healthcare learners across all clinical learning environments in england about their placements. NETS is different because it gathers feedback from all learner and trainee roles across the NHS and beyond.

SIHED Outreach officer
The Strategic Interventions in Health Education Disciplines (SIHED) project is designed to support small specialist health careers. it launched in March 2018 and aims to:
- increase awareness of allied health disciplines
- increase understanding of and demand for small specialist allied health disciplines
- strengthen and diversify the delivery of the small and specialist disciplines covered by this initiative
- develop a better understanding of the mature student market for nursing, midwifery and allied health.
